Datsun, a brand some of you younger readers probably never heard of before today is a Japanese car brand. This was the most popular car brand in Malaysia before Proton was born. Now famously known as Nissan. Yes, Datsun was Nissan before Nissan’s rebranding.

The Datsun name was revitalized for compact, efficient, simple 3rd world motoring vehicles under the Renault Nissan Aliance.

The Datsun redi-GO combines the roominess and best in class ground clearance (185 mm) with zippy driving and fuel efficiency of an affordable compact hatchback.

Simple, basic interior like the first Perodua Kancil

The Datsun redi-GO, based on the versatile Common Module Family (CMF-A) platform from the Renault-Nissan Alliance, is powered by an all-new 0.8 L three-cylinder fuel efficient engine paired with a five speed manual transmission. The Datsun redi-GO powertrain delivers lively dynamic performance and high fuel efficiency, while the new suspension system offers an excellent balance between handling, ride comfort and manoeuvrability.

The Datsun Go which is the redi-Go’s bigger sibling comes with all-round body cladding, halogen projector headlamps, front fog lamps, LED position lamps, skid plates on the front bumper, sides and rear, a roof spoiler, a rear wiper and roof rails that can carry up to 30kg loads. The new 15-inch alloy wheels shod with 175/65 R15 tyres, chrome-finished tailpipe and honeycomb grille with chrome bordering round up the exterior changes.

It is powered by a 1.2L engine good for 68hp and 104Nm of torque mated to a CVT automatic. Stopping power comes from discs in the front and drums at the rear.

Nissan in Malaysia has no plans to introduce the Datsun range in Malaysia as it will compete directly with Perodua on all levels.
